How to Remove an Ink Stain from a Couch

Your beautiful couch has an ink stain! That could be very frustrating. Ink is one of the toughest stain to remove especially if the stain is on your leather or vinyl couch. That's why it's best to deal with the stain as soon as it happens. An older ink stain will be almost impossible to remove. But if you have the patience to do the simple methods in this article, you can effectively remove that ink stain from your couch.

It is important to deal with the ink stain immediately. Blot the spot with a clean cloth or paper towels and apply a little pressure on it. Just blot and don't rub as rubbing might spread the stain. Work from the outside going towards the center and try to absorb as much ink as you can. Change the cloth or paper towels when needed. The method you apply to remove the ink stain will depend on the material of your couch.

Cloth Couch

You can remove the ink stain from your cloth couch easily by using any of the methods below.

Alcohol Method

Ink stains often come out with rubbing alcohol. Use 90% isopropyl alcohol but you can use 70% if that's the only one you have. First, test the alcohol in an inconspicuous place of the couch to make sure that it won't damage the material.

  • Apply rubbing alcohol on a clean white cloth. Do not pour alcohol directly on the stain.
  • Dab the ink stain with the cloth carefully. Do not rub or wipe. Rubbing will cause the stain to spread.
  • Repeat the process until the cloth is not absorbing any more of the ink. Make sure to change the cloth when it is saturated with ink.
  • Clean and rinse the area thoroughly with clean water until the solution is gone from the couch.
  • Dry the area with a towel.

Vinegar Method

Vinegar works wonders on ink stains. Its acetic properties allow it to remove stains effectively. Plus, it's safe to use, gentle on hands and environment friendly.

  • Combine 1 tablespoon of dish washing soap, 2 teaspoons of white vinegar and 1 cup of water in a small bowl.
  • Dab the solution on the stained area using a soft cloth.
  • Rub gently. Rubbing too hard will cause the stain to spread. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
  • Clean and rinse the affected area with a soft cloth damped with cold water. Rinse the affected area thoroughly until the solution is completely gone.
