We just spotted this info graphic on GlassTileStore.com that helps new home owners pick out a layout for their kitchen and instantly thought of sharing it further. Created in collaboration with Kitchen Cabinet Kings, the drawings below describe the different layout options available, considering the effective work triangle. This basically consists of three key appliances: the fridge, oven, and sink/dishwasher.
According to the developers, each of the floor plans gives useful advice on the positions for the work triangle in order to have an efficient and harmonious layout. We find some information in the info graphic really valuable, especially in the apartment planning phase. We found out for example that an U-shaped kitchen is ideal for two cooks and should be implemented in a floor area of at least 8X8 feet. Or that gallery layouts are great space savers. Stylish Wall-mounted Spice Rack for Your Kitchen

The 1-Line Spice Rack from Desu Design is made from 1/4” thick brushed stainless steel bars, and each piece is meticulously welded and finished to create a seamless line which appears to float on the wall. A Bookcase Defying Gravity: Equilibrium by Malagana Design

Equilibrium Bookcase is an original and surprising product by Malagana Design, a studio in Colombia. We like to call it gravity defying, but in reality the bookcase is very solid. The design concept was just really well implemented which is why, even if it seems that the cantilevered modules are going to collapse, they are in fact in equilibrium. Moreover, they are able to sustain no less than 50 kilos. The bookcase consists of five separate volumes, which the owner can customize in any way he pleases. It might prove to be useful if the owners stored books on one shelf, CDs on another and so on. However, due to their inclinations, the shelves can’t host small objects or other products that would slip and fall. All in all, we find this idea highly creative and we think it would go great in a modern, personalized interior.

Turning Rustic to Modern

This kitchen had all the usual ugly suspects: dark cabinets with knobs in the center of the doors, a big ugly fluorescent light fixture, and the previous owner's half-heated attempt at electrical work jutting from the ceiling to the island.

Working in the kitchen has turned out to be one of my favorite part not that I like cooking nor dislike it but its the best place to work. So be the judge...Do you like it before or after....

Rustic Kitchen Before and After

These rooms have been harder work than any other client work I’ve ever done (where I generally hire the work out to painters, tile installers, window treatment fabricators, etc.), but I’ve had an absolute ball doing the work myself, getting my hands dirty, and seeing just how little money I can spend while making huge changes to the rooms.
