Decorating Bedroom With Photos

When you really want to make your house feel like a home, it always helps to incorporate individualized touches in your decor. Photos are an ideal way to personalize a space since they allow you to showcase treasured memories of family and friends. While you may not think of using them to decorate your bedroom since guests likely won't see them, photos can work especially well to make that space feel more personal. You can incorporate your favorite pictures in a variety of ways in a bedroom. It's simply a matter of deciding what type of look you prefer.

Decoupaged Headboard

If you have a wooden headboard for your bed that looks a bit plain, you can decoupage it with your favorite photos to give it character and personality. Decoupage is the craft of adhering paper and fabric pieces to a surface with a special adhesive that helps seal them in place. You can cover the entire front of your headboard with photos or add decorative trim molding to create panels to fill with photos. If you don't want to damage treasured family photos, just make copies and use those to decoupage the headboard.

Wall Collage

For a more traditional look in your bedroom, frame your favorite photos and make a photo collage on a blank wall. To ensure that the collage has a unified look, choose frames that are all the same color and place your photos inside. You may want to choose a theme for the collage, such as photos of your children on their birthdays or snapshots from your favorite vacations. Hang the framed photos in a block on the wall to create an instant focal point. In fact, if your bed doesn't have a traditional headboard, you can hang the photo collage on the wall behind your bed to serve as a faux headboard.

Shelf Groupings

The easiest way to decorate with your photos is to create groupings of framed pictures. In your bedroom, you can mount shelves on the wall to display your favorite photos or use a bookshelf. The top of your dresser or bedside table is another ideal spot for a photo grouping. To give the display character and visual interest, use frames in different styles, shapes and colors. Just make sure to place the largest frames at the back of the shelf or surface so the entire grouping is visible.

Mobile

If you're decorating a child's bedroom, creating a mobile with photos of her family and friends is a sweet touch. To make sure it's sturdy enough, cut pieces of cardboard that are large enough to hold the photos and cover them with construction paper, gift wrap or scrapbook paper for a more decorative look. When it comes to the photos themselves, you can leave them as is or cut them into fun shapes for a whimsical. Glue them to the cardboard pieces and punch a hole in the top. Use ribbon or fishing wire to hang the photos at different lengths from a wire wreath form for a truly personalized piece of decor.

Oversized Canvas

At any of online photo printing services, you can have a photo blown up and printed on durable -- and dramatic -- canvas. This type of wall hanging is ideal for an accent wall in your bedroom. You can use a photo of your entire family gathered at the holidays, a favorite shot from your wedding day or a baby photo of your child. As with a photo collage, the oversized canvas photo can also take the place of a headboard if you hang it on the wall behind your bed.
